The meaning of the industry-specific term DPI

DPI stands for "dots per inch" and refers to the number of dots that a printer or scanner can produce or detect per inch of paper or screen space. DPI is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital images and the print quality of printed materials. The higher the DPI, the more detailed and clear the image or printed material will be.

The DPI of a printer usually refers to the resolution of the nozzle, that is, the number of dots of ink sprayed per inch of the nozzle. The higher the DPI, the more points the nozzle ejects, and the clearer and more delicate the printed pattern or text. Different models and brands of inkjet printers have different DPI, and in general, the common inkjet printer DPI ranges between 100 and 600.
